The blade battery is a battery product released by BYD on March 29, 2020, using lithium iron phosphate battery technology, which has passed the battery safety test - needle test, and successfully challenged the extreme strength test - 46 tons of heavy truck rolling test. Lithium iron phosphate battery and ternary lithium ion battery as a car power battery, have their own advantages in performance, compared with lithium iron phosphate battery, ternary lithium ion battery with its high energy density characteristics, bring longer driving range, become the main reason for the market favor this battery technology. However, the high energy density of ternary lithium-ion batteries also brings instability. Compared with lithium iron phosphate batteries, ternary lithium ion batteries have a greater risk of thermal runaway resulting in battery fire when the collision accident causes the battery pack to deform. Therefore, how to make more efficient use of battery pack space has become an important research direction of lithium iron phosphate batteries.
Byd's CTP design has increased the space utilization rate inside the battery pack housing from 40-50% of the traditional design method to 60-80%. The volume utilization rate is greatly improved, more cells are loaded in the same space, and the driving range is close to the mainstream models using ternary lithium-ion batteries.
